The Rise of a New Industry
The 70s were filled with events that not only changed our nation's governance of the environment, but also shaped the future of John Bruck, founder of BHE Environmental. During this time, John, a business-minded Civil Engineer saw emerging opportunities to pursue strategic business goals while protecting human health and the environment. John believed that with technical guidance and the right tools American Industry could progress in balance with the environment.


A Solid Foundation
The founder's vision was to form a consulting firm that would bring together the best minds in engineering, science, and management to plan and execute environmental projects throughout the Midwest. In early 1988 BHE Environmental was formed and quickly gained a reputation for providing highly responsive and accurate data collection, analysis and remediation services for the petroleum and chemicals industries, as well as for the heavy manufacturing and consumer products industries. Work with Superfund and the addition of services such as industrial hygiene and safety marked the end of the decade.


Expanding Into New Markets
BHE Environmental anticipated that environmental needs of private business and government facilities would become more complex in the 90s. The firm developed sophisticated technologies to provide clients theoretical and analytic skills including risk assessment, compliance auditing, and feasibility studies. BHE Environmental also developed a focus on management, wetland delineation and mitigation, threatened and endangered species management, and cultural resources management. These services were critical to relationships formed with the Department of Defense toward the end of this decade.


Innovative Technologies Lead the Way
In the new millennium, BHE Environmental launched many innovative tools including Ultimap™ and Web PM - two technological applications to raise the standard for data management and analysis. The integration of high-level information management systems and our consulting expertise is improving our approach to defining environmental solutions for our clients.
