BHE Participates in AIHC 2008, Minneapolis, MN
Highlighting this year’s conference was a subject that has challenged most
every Industrial Hygienist and fee-paying customer at one time or another –
“Demonstrating the Business Value of Industrial Hygiene”. In order to achieve
it’s mission of “…promoting healthy and safe work environments…”, AIHA has
developed an IH Value Strategy that enables business managers to understand
the value that IH programs bring to business at the facility, business unit,
and enterprise level. BHE’s Industrial Hygiene and Occupational Health
Program practices are integral to the business process of delivering bottom-line
results to you and your customers.
Along with the Industrial Hygiene Value Proposition, other sessions attended
and of particular interest to many of our clients included Diacetyl and Food
Flavorings; Mold Interpretation, Statistics, and Analysis; Toxicology of
Engineered Nanoparticles; and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED).
For more information, and to learn how your investment in IH leads to business
value, contact Mark Karaffa, CIH, at

BHE Sponsors the 2008 NWCC Wind Wildlife Research Meeting, October 28-29
The National Wind Coordinating Collaborative 7th annual Wind Wildlife Research
Meeting will be held at the We Energies headquarters in Milwaukee, Oct. 28-29,
2008. BHE is participating again this year, and has stepped up as a program
sponsor to help insure the success of this very important annual gathering.
The purpose of the meeting is to provide a forum for stakeholders and the
general public to hear about and discuss the most recent research conducted
related to wind power development and wildlife. Participants will examine
what has been learned, discuss methods for minimizing or mitigating wind
energy’s adverse/undesirable impacts on wildlife, identify questions about
wind power development opportunities and impacts related to wildlife, and
identify gaps in knowledge and research needs.

BHE Participates in US EPA and AGCA Workshops
Environmental Guidance for the Construction Industry
The US Environmental Protection Agency and the Associated General
Contractors of America joined to conduct a series of telephone workshops and an open
forum for information exchange related to the environmental responsibilities of the
construction industry. BHE Environmental participated in the effort, mostly by listening
and learning, but also by contributing comments and a limited amount of technical
support material. In short, the workshops and exchange of information helped us to
better understand issues encountered in the construction industry and provided
guidance on how to plan for compliance with applicable regulations and avoid costly
problems and delays.
The EPA / AGCA effort produced a helpful website called the Construction Industry
Compliance Assistance Center as well as a guidance document entitled "Managing Your
Environmental Responsibilities: A Planning Guide for Construction and Development".
Both can be reviewed by visiting the sites listed below:
